Not a run for everybody but definitely worth mentioning. Only 10 kilometers outside Groningen there is the small village of Sint Annen (200 inhabitants). One of the inhabitants is Gerik, a well-trained runner. He organizes (almost) each year a 100 mile, 160km of running through the entire Groningen province. This year the run is planned for the 5th of June.

Every year there are around 10-15 participants trying to complete this challenge, around half of them succeeds. Last year the run existed out of 3 laps. Starting at 9 o’clock in the morning, the runners began with a first round of 50km northwards. The second a 70km run around the city of Groningen and a finishing marathon mainly west wards. That year 4 people managed to finish, the first one after 20 hours, and the 4th one after 28 hours. The route isn’t marked but a GPS track is available, there are aid stations at approximately every 20km’s, so running with a small bag is recommended.

Clearly this is not a run that anyone could enjoy, but the starting requirements are not that tough. Anyone willing to participate should have at least completed a 100km in 16 hours. Also terrain is flat and there are some of roads parts, but most kilometers will be on paved ground. With a time limit of 32 hours, this is for anyone willing to complete such a distance a good one to give it a try.
